Thane Mulund Surplus Drive

Date 23rd march,18 Friday

Location: YouTube Fanfest, Jio Gardens, BKC

Robins in Action:

With help from Robin Vishal Katara and Skrap Management Team( Divya and Safya), we came to know about event where we went to collect 2 containers of Thai Curry, 3 containers of Rice, and 1 container of Honey Noodles, and Veg Briyani each respectively to feed around 150 people.

Skrap Team management Team was so inspired from our work that they also decided to donate 135 kinley water bottles to the Group. Safya and Divya also expressed their interest and willingness to come and volunteer us some day.

We started the food distribution at 1.30 am in night at thane station west covering platforms 1 to 4 and platform 10 east side and completed the drive at 5am feeding 125 people.

We, RHA Thane Mulund team are thankful and grateful to Scrap Management Team (Diya and Saufya) for calling us and giving us the opportunity to collect and distribute surplus food.

I feel proud to be associated to be part of RHA. Since almost 6 months ago, when I joined I never had thought to be working for one of the greatest noble cause of feeding people.

Without Vivek’s and Arif’s support it would have not been possible to collect excess food (which was anyways to be thrown as waste) and feed 125 people alone.

Everyone Deserves to be loved

Love is not just between a husband and wife, or boyfriend and girlfriend it can also be between two friends, mother and son, daughter and mother, or father and son or God and his devotee.

Love is to express and not to impress.

Every day can be a day of love. Love is unconditional and pure.

Valentine’s Day is a day of love not just for couples.

You might have said it many times to your wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend “I Love you ” but have you ever said ” I Love You” to your mother who brought you into this world, raised you with all her love and affection or your father who sweats his blood to earn and fulfill your all wishes or your brother or sister who cares and stands for you or your friends who support you unconditionally even when they know you are wrong.

A mother wakes up early cooks food for her children or husband who go to school/college or office. This her way of saying “I Love you”.

A father works hard day and night to earn for his family so that his family is not deprived of anything. This is his way of saying ” I love you”.

A brother fights with his sister irritates her, shouts at her but keeps calling her until she reaches home safely. This is his way of saying “I Love You”.

A sister steals everything of her brother just to annoy him, makes fun of him every time.

A friend scolds you for your foolishness and stands by you in your difficult times. This is his or her way of saying ” I Love You”.

What’s yours?

Express love from your heart and let them also know what you feel about them.

And not just today make it habit to do it on regular basis to show your love, trust and affection. They also deserve to be loved just like you do.

Food the Needy! They also deserve to live.

Food is a basic necessity of our life. But sadly some of us don’t even get to eat two meals a day. It is ironic how some people waste food on a daily basis while some of us go to bed empty stomach.

download (1)

An eye-opening revelation had been made by a report cited in CSR journal. It says “Indians waste as much food as the whole of United Kingdom consumes”. In a nation like India where millions still sleep hungry on streets, it’s not a good statistic.

According to the report in the journal, up to 40 percent of the food produced in India is bound to get wasted. About 21 million tonnes of India’s entire wheat produce are wasted and 50 percent of all the food across the world meets the same fate. Such a situation raises a concern that food ‘never reaches the needy’. In fact, according to the agriculture ministry, Rs 50,000 crore worth of food produced is wasted every year in the country.

The number of hungry people in India has increased by 65 million. A figure which is higher than the population of few major powers of the world, like France.

Food wastage cripples a country’s economy to an extent that most of us are unaware. If food is wasted, there is so much waste of water used in agriculture, manpower and electricity lost in food processing industries and even contributes to deforestation.

Taking all of into consideration, the actual worth of money per year in India from food wastage is estimated at a whopping Rs 58,000 crore to over Rs 96,000 crore.

Book Review “ For the Sake of Love” by Anamika Mishra

Love binds us together! Love is not just an emotion. Love is a commitment to stay loyal until the end of your life. Falling in love is easy but Being in love whole life with the same person is something which not everyone is capable of doing it.

David and Jasmine were in love with each other. David and Jasmine had promised each other to send letters no matter what happens. However, after some days Jasmine suddenly stops writing to David but he continued writing to her in hope to meet her someday.

Twisha and Rini were working as creative head in happening travel magazine.Their boss Anita (Chief Editor) had sent Twisha and Bobby to Shimla for a work assignment.

When I read the first chapter, I could not guess the connection between Twisha, David, Jasmine, as the story between David and Jasmine dates back in 1950’s and Twisha and Bobby both are young from 2017.

It was in Shimla where they come across some old lost long love letters from David addressing Jasmine and from there they embark on a journey to find Jasmine.

Love is what love does. It stays with us even if the person who has left us forever. It was David and Jasmine’s love that brought two new lovebirds ( Twisha and Alex) fall in love.

For the Sake of Love is the story of the long-lasting incomplete love story of David and Jasmine who were deeply in love with each other and how it brought two people together Twisha and Alex who never believed in love.

I enjoyed reading this heart some love story. Love can make you crazy, mad, sad, happy. After all, love makes you complete and love does what it does.

The Joy of Teaching!

Education is not part of the preparation for life, Education is life itself. We all know the importance of education in one’s life. It shapes character, career, and personality of an individual. It is everyone’s right to be educated, but sadly not all are blessed to be born in a family who can afford to send their children to school.

At RHA(Robin Hood Army), apart from normal food distribution, we also do take initiatives to teach children who cannot afford to go to school. We try to teach them how to read, write, basic enmities like saying Thank You, welcome, Good Morning, Good Evening, Good Night and Sorry.

We also impart basic hygiene practices like washing hands and face, cutting fingernails on regular basis, wearing neat and clean clothes and sandals or shoes.

Importance of Education in India

Education is the basic fundamental right of every person in this world. Education develops the way in which we lead our lives. In India, teachers and Doctors are considered as the noblest profession.

In India, we have Right to Education Act (RTE) passed by Parliament enacted on 04th Aug 2009. It is also known as RIGHT TO FREE AND COMPULSORY EDUCATION ACT. The Act makes compulsory and free education for all children aged between 6 and 14.

India is among 135 other countries who have made education a fundamental right.

The Act makes it compulsory for Private Schools to keep 25% of seats in class 1 for children from “weaker sections” or “disadvantaged groups”.

The school has to provide free education to all of them until Class 8.

I always used to see my mom teaching kids, she had a very keen interest in teaching kids. Even my father’s sister used to give home tuitions. My brother’s wife is a teacher by profession. Teaching for charity is the purest form of donation.

By teaching them, we make them a better person.

It is a long-term process and it will take a long time to get fruitful results, but we can make the difference by contributing by teaching them for 1 hour.

We also teach some creativity by teaching how to draw, colour to make studies more interactive and interesting.

Have u ever done something in your life worthwhile to be called as Hero?

We all have seen in movies where the hero kills the villain and saves his Heroine.

Have you ever seen like that in your ordinary life people doing the same??

No? Why?

The reason is it is all pure work of fiction and nothing related to real life.

But yes we all can be heroes by doing good for someone and that someone can be anyone.

Yes! We all have a hero inside us. It is very few people who realize this thing.

He is the real Hero for India who made a revolutionary invention through his vision.

Who is he? What’s so special about him? What exactly he has done?

He is from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He is a Social Entrepreneur.

Arunachalam belonged to below poverty line (BPL) family. His father worked as handloom weaver and mother as a farm worker. He Studied only till 9th standard and after that, he had to quit studies due to financial constraint and he started working as a helper in a small workshop. He made a JOURNEY FROM HELPER TO RUNNING A OWN INDUSTRY.His name stands on the list of people like our Beloved PM Shri Narendra Modi, Ex-US President Barack Obama, Ace US Tennis Player Serena Williams, Arundhati Roy a renowned author, and many more. His name appeared in TIMES MAGAZINE’S 100 MOST INFLUENTIAL PEOPLE IN THE WORLD in 2014.

It all started in 1998, when he was newly married and his world revolved around his wife, Shanthi, and his widowed mother. One day he saw Shanthi was hiding something from him. He was shocked to discover what it was – rags, “nasty cloths” which she used during menstruation. One day he saw Shanthi was hiding something from him. First, he asked what was she hiding and his wife replied, “NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS”. Later he was shocked to discover what it was – rags, “nasty cloths” which she used during menstruation. The rag was so dirty that he would not want to use clean his scooter. Then he asked “why is she not using sanitary napkins?” and she replied, “ Even I watch TV but if I start using then we will have to cut family milk budget”. He was shocked and replied instantly “ What’s the connection between cutting family milk budget and napkins?”. He then understood something known as a cost factor.

Wanting to impress his young wife, Muruganantham went into town to buy her a sanitary pad.He weighed it in his hand and wondered why 10g (less than 0.5oz) of cotton, which at the time cost 10 paise (£0.001), should sell for 4 rupees (£0.04) – 40 times the price.

He decided he could make them cheaper himself.

Arunachalam Muruganantham’s invention came at a great personal cost – he nearly lost his family, his money and his place in society. But he kept his sense of humour.

He started making napkins and gave it to his wife and demanded an immediate feedback but his wife replied: “It is not possible to do so, you have to wait for some time”. Only when he came to know that periods were only monthly once. After 15 days his wife came back with feedback “what kind of napkin you gave me? It is very nasty I am going back to using rags.” .So he then persuaded his sisters for same, but after a few days later whenever he went to visit his sisters, his sisters started called his wife to not send brother and ask embarrassing things.

FACT: In India, it is considered taboo to speak openly about the menstrual problems.Even Women are forbidden to enter temples during periods.

STATS: As per the survey in India only 7% of women use sanitary napkins. So what about rest 93 %? The answer to this question is highly shocking.Rest 93% use old rags, and more unhygienic substances like sand, ash, leaves and sawdust.

Finding volunteers was not so easy task. After his sisters refused, he turned towards medical college students. He managed to get 20 students as volunteers to try out his pads.Even medical students were embarrassed to discuss these kinds of problems openly.Giving napkins was easy but getting feedback was not.So he made a feedback form in which he made a list of questions which he could not ask directly. One day when he came to collect the feedback forms he caught 3 girls hurriedly filling all the forms. The feedback forms were not reliable as it was not true at all. This was a huge blow.

After so many days of the experiment, he couldn’t think of any reason why his napkin was not as successful.

This posed a big challenge. But he was determined to do something. As time progressed it took almost 1 year and he was still at base zero and worse was he had no alternate means.

After watching 18 months of frustration, his wife left him. This was a 1st major blow in his personal life.

One day he took one extreme step which no one could have imagined.

He started wearing Sanitary napkins himself. He becomes the first man in History to wear a Sanitary Napkin.

But he was not satisfied with the result. He was unable to understand “Why his napkins are not working with women and girls?”. He further sent his samples to laboratories to test and all the lab report would say the same thing that it contains Cotton and filament substance.

images (7)

He started asking women for used sanitary napkins to find out the reason where he was failing and started collecting them. One fine day when his mother saw all this, she cried a lot and after some time she also left him. This was the second major blow in his personal life.Even nearby people started talking bad things about, for instance, since he is having an affair , he is under some black magic, he has become a pervert, etc. and yet he did not stop his research.

After almost 2 years of research he came to know the real reason of his failure. The real reason was Cotton from the flower (bark of the tree). Its called wood pulp. But other part was more shocking. To make napkins, a machine was needed which cost around Rs 3. 5 Crores which was in the hands of multi nationals only since the Second World War.

images (4)

But even after seeing this he did not got discouraged and after 4.5 years of research, he made small machines and finally made WORLD CLASS NAPKIN AT HIS HOME. THAT WAS HIS INNOVATION. After that he sent his sample to IIT (Indian Institute of Technology, Madras) for evaluation.

Later, his wife and mother also returned to him after 5 years.

He innovation was awarded 1st Prize in “Best Innovation for the Betterment of the Society” from IIT Madras from 943 entries in 2006.

Today, across Globe, his machine is unique to make a low cost Sanitary napkin.

Arunachallam provides machines to rural India and thereby creating rural employment and his mission is to create at least 1 Million job opportunities for rural women!

He could have made millions by selling his innovation to MNCS but he chose not to do so.He believes no one dies due to poverty, but of ignorance by the people who think about making only profits and their their main motto is to generate maximum wealth accumulation and nothing else.

And not only this, he has to make napkins usage in India from 7 % to 100%.

And lastly a Bollywood major motion film titled “PADMAN” is all set to release on 26th Jan, 2018 which features Actors like Akshay Kumar, Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor in the lead which is also produced by Akshay Kumar.
